Special Precautions

Disconnect battery earth lead.DO NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft once timing belt removed.Rerelocate spark plugs to ease turning engine.Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unmuch less otherwise stated).DO NOT revolve engine through camshaft or other sprockets.Observe all tightening torques.

Removal

WARNING: Crankshaft sprocket NOT keyed to crankshaft.

Raise and also support front of car.Remove:RH front wheel.Auxiliary drive belt cover.Auxiliary drive belt(s).Auxiliary drive belt guide sheave (if fitted) <1> .Water pump sheave <2> .Cylinder head cover.Coolant development tank. DO NOT disattach hoses.PAS reservoir. DO NOT disattach hoses.Alternator.Blanking plug from cylinder block <3> .Turn crankshaft clockwise until simply before TDC on No.1 cylinder.Insert crankshaft timing pin. Tool No.303-748.Turn crankshaft slowly clockwise until it stops versus timing pin.Ensure establishing bar have the right to be fitted <4> . Device No.303-376 (21-162B).If establishing bar cannot be fitted:Rerelocate timing pin. Turn crankshaft one revolve clockwise.Insert timing pin. Encertain crankshaft web versus timing pin.Encertain establishing bar have the right to be fitted.Remove:Crankshaft wheel bolt <5> .Crankshaft pulley <6> .Timing belt reduced cover <7> .Support engine.Remove:RH engine mounting.Timing belt top cover <8> .RH engine mounting bracket <9> .

NOTE: Tright here are three forms of tensioner.Tensioner – type A:Slacken tensioner bolts <10> .Turn tensioner anti-clockwise to release anxiety on belt <11> . Use Allen key (8 mm).Tensioner – kind B:Slacken tensioner sheave bolt <12> .Turn tensioner camera clockwise to release tension on belt <13> . Use Allen vital (6 mm).Tensioner – kind C – 09/2003→:Pull on belt to depress tensioner sheave and insert locking pin <14> . Tool No.303-1054.Rerelocate tensioner bolts <15> .Remove tensioner pulley.All models:Remove timing belt.

Installation


WARNING: Crankshaft sprocket NOT keyed to crankshaft.

Ensure setting bar fitted appropriately <4> .Encertain crankshaft at TDC on No.1 cylinder.Ensure crankshaft timing pin situated properly.Remove setting bar <4> .Hold camshaft sprockets <16> . Use tool No.205-072 (15-030A).Slacken bolt of each camshaft sprocket <17> .

NOTE: DO NOT use setting bar to hold camshafts as soon as slackening bolts.Tap each camshaft sprocket gently to loosen it from taper.Ensure camshaft sprockets deserve to rotate openly without tilting.Fit setting bar to rear of camshafts <4> .Fit timing belt in anti-clockwise direction, founding at crankshaft sprocket.NOTE: Tright here are three kinds of tensioner.Tensioner – type A:Turn tensioner clockwise till indicator main with rectangular recess <18> . Tightening torque: 20 Nm.All models:Encertain belt is taut between sprockets.Install:Timing belt reduced cover <7> .Crankshaft pulley-block <6> .Tighten crankshaft pulley-block bolt <5> . Tightening torque: 40 Nm + 90°. Use brand-new bolt.Tensioner – type C – 09/2003→: Remove tensioner sheave locking pin <14> .Hold camshaft sprockets <16> . Use tool No.205-072 (15-030A).Tighten bolt of each camshaft sprocket <17> . Use new bolts. Tightening torque: 60 Nm.NOTE: DO NOT use setting bar to host camshafts as soon as tightening bolts.Remove:Timing pin.Setting bar <4> .Turn crankshaft progressively two turns clockwise until just prior to TDC on No.1 cylinder.Insert crankshaft timing pin.Turn crankshaft progressively clockwise until it stops against timing pin.Ensure establishing bar have the right to be fitted <4> .If not:Hold camshaft sprockets <16> . Use tool No.205-072 (15-030A).Slacken bolt of each camshaft sprocket <17> .Slowly turn camshafts via spanner on hexagon <20> .Fit establishing bar to rear of camshafts <4> .Hold camshaft sprockets <16> . Use tool No.205-072 (15-030A).Tighten bolt of each camshaft sprocket <17> . Tightening torque: 60 Nm.NOTE: DO NOT usage setting bar to host camshafts when tightening bolts.Remove:Timing pin.Setting bar <4> .Fit blanking plug and tighten to 20 Nm <3> .Install components in reverse order of removal.Tighten RH engine mounting bracket bolts <21> . Tightening torque: 55 Nm.Tighten RH engine mounting nuts and also bolts. Tightening torque: 48 Nm.
